Young people around the world, join together with the respective Heads of State and Government of their countries (Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Andorra), at the “Encounter of Stewardship Intergenerational on Climate Change” to be held in Costa Rica in April 2013 and be the first of its kind on the subject worldwide.
The announcement was made by Chancellor Enrique Castillo, along with the Ministers of Culture and Youth, Manuel Obregon and Environment, René Castro, to participate in today’s launch meeting, at a ceremony held in Madrid, which they attended Ibero-American General Secretary Enrique Iglesias, and the Director of the School of Agriculture for the Humid Tropics (EARTH), Jose Zaglul.
The meeting will encourage the “intergenerational responsibility” as an innovative strategy to improve the impact and ensure sustainability of major global responses to climate change, that are being discussed today.
“Will the scheme of Ibero-American summits, and allow attendees to be partners and make known to the government authorities of youth position on the issue of climate change,” said the head of the Costa Rican diplomacy.
He added that this activity will focus attention worldwide on Costa Rica, because it is an environmental issue.
It will also allow closer ties between generations, to develop and implement and invest on solutions to climate change, incorporating knowledge, experience, skills, abilities and commitments of the current and future generations.
Manuel Obregon, Minister of Culture and Youth, in charge of presenting the project, said that “environmental awareness and the effects of climate change are part of the knowledge of the youth, is part of your world, because they were inherited. Therefore, in whom they are better able to recognize a conceptual, pragmatic, sensitivity and sense of solidarity to bring effective solutions hit upon to respond to the challenges of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
